ARTIST'S STATEMENT

I like to make words lose their meaning. When I try to depict something in absolute detail, I have to abandon any preconceived knowledge about my subject; it’s title, it’s average use, and most importantly, any personal experience I may have attached to it. As I begin to draw, my observation pushes me to accept my subject for what it is, regardless of what might be considered a flaw or an ugly mark, in order to create the most accurate portrayal possible. Through this, I have been able to redefine my perspective and unite my appreciation of facts and reality with my own personal experiences. By the end of the day, after hours upon hours have been spent molding one curvature or analyzing abstract pigments, I have taught myself more about my mind than I had initially intended. Regardless of the finished piece, the experience of exploring different visual realms and pushing myself to try new things is beneficial and has taught me to stress my process more than my product.
